Republic of Indonesia and Ngayogyakarta Kingdom

Yogyakarta have many tittles, it is center of culture, center of education, center of independence struggle, center of tourism destination, gudeg city, silver city, history city, harmony city, classic city, batik city. If Yogyakarta become A special region, it is not many reason again. Ngayogyakarta Kingdom have relationship with Republic of Indonesia. When it was national movement area, it was born Wahidin Sudirhusodo, Yogyakarta son, who have inisiative to collect the youth from other region to attack colonializm in Indonesia. He advised to Mr Sutomo to established Budi Utomo, a first national movement organization. The first congres of Budi Utomo was holding in Yogyakarta (Budi Utomo Building was aristocrat school, now Senior High School 11). After establishing of Budi Utomo, many organization born.

Many colleges, academy, university, school was established here, that interested many people in Indonesia to send their sons or daughter to study here. Yogyakarta is kawah candradimuka for many people in Indonesia.

On August 17th, 1945 Indonesian nation proclaimed their Independence Day. After during about three hundreds and fifty years colonialized by Dutch Government, they can enjoy freedom. Ir. Soekarno and Drs. Moh. Hatta was reading proclamation text on Jalan Pegangsaan Timur 56, Jakarta.

Just at the moment the independence was proclaimed Sri Sultan hamengku Buwana IX called Sri Paduka Paku Alam VIII and KRT Honggowongso, a senior staff in Kepatihan to ask their consideration what he should do. At that time the independence had been wished for a long time so everyone supported it fully.

Based on Sri Sultan’s order, KRT Honggowongso prepared a telegram for President Soekarno to cingratulate him on proclaimed the Indonesia Independence. Beside Sri Sultan also stated that Yogyakarta Hadiningrat would always support the Republic of Indonesia and Sri Sultan was directly responsible to President of Indonesia. The same telegram was sent by Sri Paduka Paku Alam VIII.
